Urban Art

Synchronia: Open Sky Museum

What if art didn’t wait for you inside a museum? What if it met you in the street — at the corner you pass every morning, on the screen you glance at on your way to work, in the plaza where the city gathers at the end of the day? Synchronia: Open Sky Museum is built on that question, and on a belief: that culture is most powerful when it is most accessible.

Synchronia transforms Miami into an open-air museum. Every day, at a specific hour, LED screens distributed across key urban spaces across the city synchronize to display digital artworks created by Hispanic artists — turning advertising infrastructure into a canvas, and the city itself into a gallery without walls. For a few minutes each day, Miami becomes something else: a coordinated, city-scale cultural experience, shared simultaneously by residents, visitors and institutions, brought together by art that speaks to where they are and who they are.

The project draws on Miami’s unique position — a global, diverse city with a deep Hispanic cultural identity and a built environment that is already wired for large-scale visual communication — and reimagines what that infrastructure can do.

It also provides a powerful platform for Hispanic artistic talent: curated from across the diaspora, the artists whose work appears in Synchronia reach audiences they could never reach through traditional gallery or museum channels, at a scale that is genuinely transformative. Synchronia is designed to be more than a one-time event. Its modular, infrastructure-based model is replicable in any city with an existing LED screen network, making it a genuinely scalable platform for Hispanic cultural expression on a global scale.

The project also generates a rich stream of content — documented artworks, behind-the-scenes material, audience reactions, artist interviews — that extends its life and reach far beyond the screens themselves.
